The University of Georgia is a public land-grant research university with its main campus in Athens, Georgia. The University of Georgia Founded in 1785, and is one of the oldest public universities in the United States. The flagship of the University of Georgia System of Georgia, it is considered to be a Public Ivy, or a public institution that offers an academic experience equivalent to an Ivy League university.

The University of Georgia also owns a residential education and research center in Washington, DC, as well as three international residential education and research centers located at Oxford University in Oxford, England, at Cortona, Italy, and Monteverde, Costa Rica.
